Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and two others booked under PSA Last Updated : 07 Feb 2020 12:13:54 PM IST Ex-CMs Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti booked under PSA Jammu and Kashmir administration has booked 4 politicians, including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti under the the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), just hours before their six-month-long "preventive detention" was to come to an end.
The other two politicians, Ali Muhammad Sagar of National Conference and Sartaj Madni of People’s Democratic Party were slapped with PSA as soon as they got released from preventive detention on Thursday afternoon. According to sources, bureaucrat-turned-politician Shah Faesal is also expected to be detained under PSA.Sources said the government decided to book the ex-CMs under PSA since it was becoming “legally untenable” to keep them under preventive detention for any longer. The PSA allows the detention of any individual for up to two years without any trial or charge. The legislation also allows for the arrest and detention of people without a warrant, any definite charges, and often for an undefined time period.Abdullah is currently detained at Dogra-era palace Hari Niwas, which was also a torture centre of armed forces in 1990s, and Mufti is detained at a government guest house in Lal Chowk.Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also criticised the two chief ministers in his parliament address.Furthermore, the three-time J&K Chief Minister and Srinagar MP, Farooq Abdullah, is also under detention under PSA.IANS Srinagar For Latest Updates Please-
