Bengal Speaker rejects Suvendu's resignation, calls him on Dec 21 Last Updated : 18 Dec 2020 07:14:54 PM IST Trinamool Congress lawmaker Suvendu Adhikari West Bengal legislative assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Friday refused to accept the resignation of Trinamool Congress lawmaker Suvendu Adhikari as it did not confirm to the provisions of the Constitution and the rules of the House.
Banerjee further said that Adhikari has been asked to appear before him in person in his chamber on December 21 to make his submission with regard to the matter."After an examination I found that there was no date mentioned in the letter... I've asked him to appear before me at 2 p.m. on December 21," Banerjee said. The Speaker was also not present in the House at that time when Adhikari tendered his resignation on Wednesday."It is only possible for me to accept his resignation when he appears before me in person. If he can prove his case, I will certainly accept his resignation," the Speaker told mediapersons on Friday.Adhikari had earlier resigned as minister in the Mamata Banerjee-led cabinet. He submitted his resignation as MLA at the Assembly secretariat on December 16. On Thursday, he also resigned from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).In his resignation letter, sent to the party chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Adhikari had thanked the Trinamool Congress chief for the opportunities and challenges given to him.On the other hand, the Union Home Ministry has sanctioned Z-category security cover and a bullet proof vehicle for Adhikari.IANS Kolkata For Latest Updates Please-
