"The maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees was four notches above the season's average. Delhi and adjoining areas could record light rain towards the night," the India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 28.2 degrees, three notches above the season's average.

According to private weather forecaster Skymet, dust and thunder storms accompanied by rain may occur at a few places in east Delhi, New Delhi, south Delhi, and Haryana's Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Mewat, Palwal, Rewari, and Rohtak, Rajasthan's Alwar, and Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Hapur districts.
