A Mumbai police constable was booked for allegedly trying to run his car over a businessman following a financial dispute, police said Tuesday.
Police constable Ramesh Awte trying to run a man over with his car after having arguement over Money in Thane. Shoking video footage has also emerged of the shameful act of a serving Mumbai constable.
The incident was caught on a CCTV camera and Awte who once served as encounter specialist of Vijay Salaskar who laid down his life fighting terrorist in 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai. He was serving as driver on the time.
Constable Ramesh Awte was earlier booked for extortion when he and another constable Shailesh Patil had tried to extort Rs. 15 lakhs from Munaf Kasmani in 2010. Kasmani was arrested for his involvement in the Rs 14 crores IT refund scam in which money was frauddently transferred to bogus account.
Ramesh Awte, attached to the crime branch of Mumbai police, had tried to knock down Atul Pethe on April 21, a release by Thane city police said. Awte and Pethe, who owns an ice-cream shop, were friends. However, a dispute cropped up between them over some financial matter.
The shameful incident in Thane
“On April 21, Awte came to Pethe’s shop in Naupada area and started hurling abuses at him. Thereafter, the accused drove his vehicle in a negligent manner to harm the victim. Pethe clung to the vehicle and dragged for some distance.
The victim sustained injuries in the incident. Awte has been booked for rash driving and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.
