Polling for the phase 1 of the Uttar Pradesh election came to an end. 73 constituencies in 15 districts went to the polls in western part of the state on saturday.

Election Commission said over 63 per cent turnout was witnessed till 5 p.m.

"Polling was peaceful across the 15 districts and 63 per cent (tentative) of the voters cast their votes," Deputy Election Commissioner Vijay Dev told reporters here.

As the voting begin in morning it seems that anti incumbency had played a role. By the time its 1 PM 39.4% of the votes have been polled and it looked as it will be a bumper voting which might help Mayawati or BJP.

But as the day proceed voting percentage became moderate and by the end of the day it came out to be be little more then 63 percent, thought its on a bit higher side then that of the last time (61 percent in UP assembly election of 2012) but not enough to say that voter had come out in favor of one or against anyone.

The outcome of the polls in which the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress have come together in the state for the first time will be seen as trend for the next Lok Sabha polls 2019. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is hoping to return to power in the state after 13 years while Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party, which fared the worst the last time around, hopes to stage a comeback.

In first phase of election nearly 2.6 crore people, including 1.17 crore women, across 15 districts had voted for 839 candidates contesting on 73 of the 403 seats, the seven phase election that will end on 8 March.
