How to Win the Royal Rumble and its Significance Last Updated : 10 Feb 2022 09:23:08 PM IST While speaking to Betway, WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan (American Professional Wrestler) the winner of the first-ever Royal Rumble shares strategies and advice for winning the event for this year’s contestants.
The very first Royal Rumble in 1988, was a 20 men elimination match in which Hacksaw entered the ring at number 13 and eventually stood as the last man standing in the ring - Hacksaw said while speaking to Betway. It is ideal to stay away from people and avoid less contact for surviving a long time in the ring, as it is about longevity. Hence, most of the wrestlers spent more time in the corners of the ring as it was a safe place to stay while others are engaged physically. It was the very next year the Royal Rumble matches were converted into 30 men elimination matches, and as per the statistical data if we see contestants who have lately entered the ring have won the per-per-view event the most. The contestants entering later are much fresher than the other wrestlers who have been in the ring for a longer time.It is quite different to win a Royal Rumble match than a singles fight, Hacksaw adds as nobody controls anything in such type of matches as it is wild chaos happening in the ring. It is significant for the wrestlers to be alert who are competing in events such as battle royal or Royal Rumble.According to statistics, The nationality of the highest number of contestants winning the Royal Rumble till now is from the USA.Hacksaw Jim Duggan says – he never held any championship titles, tag team titles, but winning the maiden Royal Rumble was a feather in the hat. To win the Royal Rumble match a wrestler should be strong, quick, and also lucky enough as well.Royal Rumble is one of the must-watch wrestling even of the year. Hence, winning the Royal Rumble match is important which leads the winner towards the Grandest wrestling event, “Wrestlemania” where the winner gets an opportunity to choose the championship title he wants to challenge and become champion.Significance of winning the Royal RumbleAs Duggan defines that winning the inaugural Royal Rumble match is one of the biggest achievements in his portfolio and a career-defining opportunity. He was overwhelmed after winning the pay-per-view and was very much more surprised than anyone else in the venue.Hacksaw defines himself as ‘The Tough Guy’, even though he did not win much of matches but the competition he brought for his opponents was very passionate which ultimately made him the winner of the fight among the crowd. It was his passion for the game which brought him back to WWE in 2009 and once again in 2012 where he competed against the second generation superstars Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase Jr., and Randy Orton who were kids of Dusty Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, and Bob Orton respectively.Hacksaw defines that things were different to win the 2012 Royal Rumble as he was 58 years and the other wrestlers were 15 to 20 years younger than him.For Latest Updates Please-
